Drape project- design manual...

Drape project.....

Design manual

When I first got the brief for this project I wasn't to enthusiastic, a design manual doesn't sound that exciting, the thought of combining technical sketches , methods writing into a book didn't frill me.

But as I started to get into I found my self getting more and more enthused . Along with the brief we were given 5 inspirational images to start us off with the sister project of creating a draped garment which was running along side this project. I choose an oriental inspired draped dress , with pleats and made from silk.

I based my manual on a Japanese fashion magazine , to link in with my inspiration and researched various different magazines to find out the themes they used and also layout and text ideas. I then started to put the manual together in this style.

I came across a few problems one being I'm such a perfectionist so this took me a while but I was extremely happy with my final outcome of a stylish professional drape manual , I hade it bound in a magazine format which you can see in the image it gives a professional feel to the manual .

I'm going to upload the slideshow of pages soon so keep posted...

Photo shoot ....

Drape photo shoot day.....

My photo shoot was amazing, I decided to base the shoot around an oriental theme to co-ordinate with my influences. The shoot location was a back yard brick wall, which my friend kindly let me use in her garden , I choose this as a background because I felt it contrast the colours of the fabric .

my original plan was to find a oriental style setting but I felt it may be a little cliché I feel this background bring this a bit more up to date with high fashion.

I couldn't have done this amazing shoot with out the help of my assistants Charlotte Forbes, Heather Burchett who helped with lighting dressing and photography , my model Lara Skowronska and make up and hair artists Chimi kaji and Siu Ping Wan.

Georgie Mulholland.... Initial ideas

When i first saw our choosen item, I must admit I was a little shocked a cake icer would not be my first choice of item to use to inspire a project ,but as imaginations in our group started to flow and merge , amazing images and ideas emmerged.
Such as using the icer as a embellishment tool to decorate garments with paint glitter ect ,even to use it as a make up dispencer.
As the imagination juices kept on flowing the theme of 1950's pin up stlye house wife appeared. This theme took of and ideas of red lipstick, cup cakes and ribbons ran wild....
As a group we came up with a brand name whick links our item theme and a little humour
... KiTcHwEaR ...The Icing on the Cake!.... we aim to create a design range of garments and acesessories inspired by our theme.
